Practice Presence

Simple exercises to bring you into the present moment, anchoring your attention to physical sensations (e.g., the warmth of the sun, the feel of your breath). 

  • What did you see today? It's fall in Kentucky, and this week I noticed gorgeous bright red leaves canvasing the street while taking my daughter to school. Walking into my office, the giant maple leaves on the ground gave me pause, as I enjoyed the vibrant yellows and golds they displayed across my yard.

Remember: There's no right or wrong way to journal. Just open your heart, put pen to paper, and allow your inner wisdom to shine through. 

  •  Sunshine & Shadow: What emotions are feeling bright and expansive in me today, like sunshine? What emotions feel a little shadowed or quiet, and what gentle message might they hold? 
  •  Repeating Rhythms: Over the past week (or month), what emotional patterns have I noticed? When do I feel most energized? When do I feel most drained? What might these rhythms be trying to tell me? 
  •  A Letter to My Feeling: Write a letter directly to an emotion you are holding (e.g., "Dear Sadness," "Dear Joy," "Dear Frustration"). What do you want to tell it? What do you want to ask it?
